As the calendar flips from May to June, the 40-18 Philadelphia Phillies will look to continue their early-season success as they seek to secure their 11th-straight win at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday evening against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Phillies closed out the month of May with a 4-2 victory over the Cardinals in their City Connect jerseys. The two longest-hitting streaks in baseball, belonging to the Cardinals’ Masyn Winn and the Phillies’ J.T. Realmuto, were both broken on the night.

Phillies vs. Cardinals: Pitching Preview
Ranger Suarez (9-1, 1.75 ERA) vs. Sonny Gray (7–2, 2.60 ERA)

This will be a fun pitching matchup for a nationwide broadcast.

Coming off his first loss of the season in Colorado, Ranger Suarez will have another chance to become the first pitcher across Major League Baseball to reach double-digit wins this season. Pitch control and a high walk count hurt Suarez early on against Colorado and yet Suarez still managed to last six innings, striking out nine batters in the process. Over his past two starts, Suarez has struck out 19 batters over 13 innings.

Toeing the rubber against Suarez will be the veteran right-hander Sonny Gray for the Cardinals. Gray pitched 28.2 innings for a 3.77 ERA across five starts in the month of May. Most recently, he pitched five scoreless innings, yielding only one hit and two walks while striking out eight against the Chicago Cubs.

Phillies vs. Cardinals: Betting Preview

Now home from the West Coast, the Phillies feel like they are settling back into their good vibes rhythm. Saturday night’s matchup is set to be a low-scoring affair as two strong starting pitchers take the mound, but that just means that home-field advantage underneath the Saturday night lights might just take the Phillies over the edge.
Betting pick: Phillies -148

Bet on the Ranger

Speaking of pitching. Ranger Suarez is the man to bet on right now. With 19 strikeouts over his past 13 innings pitched. He’s at +300 to record at least eight strikeouts. Eight strikeouts implies a deep outing, but nothing seems to be stopping Suarez lately.
