After having their 2nd bye week of the season last weekend, Marlon LeBlanc’s Union II side is back in action this weekend as they take on a North East road trip to face New England Revolution II.
Before the team enjoyed their week break from action, Marlon LeBlanc’s side managed to pull off a win in their last game in the MLS Next Pro, with a 2-0 win over Huntsville City FC, a win that kept their unbeaten streak at home alive. CJ Olney netted the first close to the 80th minute and then vice-captain Frankie Westfield slotted home a penalty late on for the game killing 2nd goal.
Union II @ Revs II Preview
This isn’t the first time these two sides have met this season after they met back in March. Marlon LeBlanc’s men were the winners that day, after coming back from being 1-0 down thanks to an Alex Monis goal. However, Union II managed to rally back after a deflected cross from Kyle Tucker got the young side level and then Cavan Sullivan, on his debut, put in an unbelievable assist to Sal Olivas, who scored his first goal for the club to win the game for Philly.
Philly’s opponents today were heading into the season with high hopes after a good postseason appearance in 2023, however, New England has suffered a slow start to their 2024 season, with only 11 points through 8 games so far. They currently hold the 2nd worst defensive record in the Eastern Conference, conceding 17 goals, and last time out New England lost to Crown Legacy 2-1.
Alex Monis will be one to watch, given he managed to get a goal the last time these two teams met, but another to watch will be Marcos Diaz as he currently has 5 assists on top of 3 goals this season, New England creates a lot of chances.
Union II currently sits 2nd in the Eastern Conference, with the best defensive record in the league after only conceding 8 goals so far this season. Marlon LeBlanc’s men are only 3 points behind conference leaders Chattanooga FC but have played 2 fewer games than the league leaders so this game will be the perfect opportunity to keep the top-of-the-table race in their own hands.
The game is set to kick off at 3 pm ET at Gillette stadium and can be watched for free on the MLS Next Pro website, no Apple TV or MLS Season Pass subscriptions are needed to watch this one.
