Since 2011, the Philadelphia Phillies and Philabundance have partnered together through a campaign called “Phans Feeding Families” in an effort to end food insecurity in Philadelphia.
This partnership between the two sides has raised over $600,000 and provided over a million meals to local Philly residents. On Wednesday morning, the 2024 Food Drive kicked off at Philabundance’s Community Kitchen site.
Phillies’ Partnerships
Forming a good lineup is not exclusive to the field, and the Phillies have done so both on and off the diamond. Off the field, the Phils have assembled a team committed to helping end hunger in the city. The Phillies are teamed with Philabundance, Giant, and Toyota, amongst others. Each company is pitching in to help raise both awareness and funds for the cause.
A few guest speakers took turns discussing the importance of the charity and how much it is helping the city. With food insecurity rising, the efforts of Phans Feeding Families have become all the more important.
Dan Fitzpatrick, Mid-Atlantic President of Citizens; Jackie Cuddeback, Phillies Senior VP of Partnership Sales and Marketing; and Loree D. Jones, Philabundance CEO, all highlighted the incredible journey that has taken place with these charitable efforts and how they look forward to continuing to reach bigger milestones.
Striking Out Hunger
During Wednesday’s event, two special guests joined the fun at Philabundance’s location. These two guests, Aaron Nola and the Phillie Phanatic, were just the icing on the cake as the 2024 Food Drive kicked off.
Nola threw a ceremonial first pitch to the Phanatic as an example of getting the mission started. Aaron helped announce that on June 29th, the Phillies will be hosting a food drive at Citizens Bank Park during their game against the Miami Marlins.
Fans can buy special theme night tickets for that game, and proceeds will go towards the cause. In addition, fans can bring food that night to the stadium, as designated areas will have locations to drop off the items. Both the Phillies and Philabundance asked for non-perishable food items, such as peanut butter, canned tuna, pasta, etc.
There will also be a Phillies auction hosted in an effort to raise additional funds. Signed baseballs, jerseys, and other merchandise will all be included during this event.
