Phillies vs Mets: Pitching preview
Ranger Suarez (7-0, 1.50 ERA) vs Joey Lucchessi (N/A)
The Phillies will be rolling with Ranger Suarez on Wednesday in a bid to seal the series. Suarez has been utterly brilliant this season and is showing no signs of slowing down after pitching a shutout in his most recent outing against the Marlins. That was his 4th of the year and he now faces a Mets lineup ranking 19th runs scored and 20th in batting average. This could well be another fine day at the office for one of the best pitchers in Baseball this season.
Across from Suarez will be Joey Lucchesi. The 30-year-old was called up from New York’s AAA affiliate to make his first start of the season against one of the hottest teams in baseball, a daunting task to say the least. He averaged a 2.58 ERA in the minors through 38 innings pitched. He shouldn’t be overlooked, however. Lucchesi maintains a 4.21 ERA in major league play through 5 years, giving up 44 hits in 46 innings pitched last year.

The Phillies have got the best of the Mets through the opening two games of this series and it’s hard to see a reason for that to change tonight. While New York does have some big-time hitting potential, Ranger Suarez has been pitching out of his mind this season and a deflated Mets team shouldn’t pose too much of a threat to change that.

Bryce Harper is a player I’ll be targeting once again this evening. He punched in a run last time out and came into this series with a .258 career batting average against the Mets. If Lucchesi struggles, which is likely, this feels like a great spot to take get on a home run line of a +550, which is a 10% bump over last game’s line. Harper’s heating up and that’s bad news for a pitcher making his major league debut.
