Phillies v. Marlins: Following a much-earned day off, the Philadelphia Phillies are hopping on a 777 and heading to Miami for a three-game bout with the Marlins.
Fresh off a seven-game winning streak, the Major League-best Phillies are taking on the bottom-dwelling, ten-win Marlins – a fantastic opportunity to kick a little more dust in the eyes of the Atlanta Braves.
From a gambling perspective, things have been nice if you’re betting on a Phillies offense holding a +52 run differential. And that’s saying nothing of a starting staff that’s already recorded a combined 20 wins through 38 games—the most in the MLB.

Phillies vs Marlins: Pitching Matchup
Ranger Suárez (6-0, 1.72 ERA) v. Trevor Rogers (0-5, 6.15 ERA)
The Phillies have had a few nice surprises, and Ranger Suárez has shocked everyone. Through seven starts, Suárez has the fifth-lowest ERA (1.72), best WHIP (0.72), and fourth-lowest opponent batting average (.172) in the MLB. A perfect 6-0 record doesn’t hurt either.
While Suárez doesn’t have much to worry about going up against a team that’s scored the fifth fewest runs in the MLB, due diligence requires we look into the history books.
Josh Bell‘s the only current Marlin to record a home run off Suarez, but his .167 batting average leaves you lacking inspiration. The hot-hitting Bryan De La Cruz has only hit .231 across 13 at-bats against Suarez, but his seven homers and .328 BA over the past month make him a name to watch.

All in all, there is not too much to worry about, but aren’t those famous last words?
Best Bet Verdict: Suárez has averaged just north of 6.5 K’s per start in 2024. I’d ease the gas on that number against a Marlins squad that has deceptively avoided striking out, with the 6th least in the MLB. You can still get Suárez at 5+ strikeouts for -200, and I feel safer about that. Sneak it into a parlay, you coward.
Quick Hits – Phillies vs Marlins
Edmundo Sosa Sleeper
You’ll need to keep an eye on the Phillies’ starting lineup, but with Trea Turner sidelined, Edmundo Sosa has made four starts since the beginning of May. He’s recorded an RBI in three of those starts.
Insult to injury against Marlins starter Trevor Rogers, Sosa is a career .500 hitter with an OPS of 1.750 (albeit through four at-bats). Still, if Sosa starts, I would like him to record an RBI, which you can get at +170 on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Legal Theft
The Phillies have the fifth most stolen bases in the MLB (42). With ten of those coming from Turner, who’s unavailable, let’s look to the young Johan Rojas, who’s stolen seven, averaging about 0.23 stolen bases per game.
While I don’t love getting a parlay tied up with a low average, Rojas’s +235 odds pay out $23.50 on a $10 wager. This is always fun to ride if you’re expecting a little small ball.
Hurricane Nick Castellanos
If you want to frustrate yourself or feel like the smartest guy in the Uber pool, gamble on Nick Castellanos. While 2024 hasn’t been a banner year for the Phillies right-fielder, things may be turning.
Since the start of May, Castellanos has hit .318, including three doubles, through 22 at-bats. Couple that with his career 1.071 OPS against the Marlins’ Rogers, and you have a perfect storm in Miami. I want Casty to record 2+ bases, and we’ll head back to FanDuel to wager $10 to win $10 at +100 odds.
