Ranger Suarez awarded NL Pitcher of the Month after an incredible month of April

The Philadelphia Phillies were among the hottest teams in baseball during the month of April. They’ve gone 7-3 in their last 10 and are now just 0.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. Pitching perfection has been a large catalyst in this sensational run of form, and one man, in particular, has stood out – Ranger Suarez.

Ranger Suarez named NL Pitcher of the Month

MLB has now named Ranger Suarez as its NL Pitcher of the Month following one of his best stretches of form in his career. As things stand, the 28-year-old lefty is still undefeated in 5 starts, sporting a 1.32 ERA and 0.63 WHIP. For context, his career average WHIP is 1.2. It’s just the results though, it’s how they’ve come to pass.

The Venezuelan allowed just 3 runs during the month of April and was riding a 3-game streak without conceding a single one until the Padres snuck one past. He’s also struck out 7+ batters 4 times this season already.

That 3-game streak actually put him into the history books. Ranger Suarez became one of only seven players in Phillies history to pitch 30+ scoreless innings or more.

We’ll next see Suarez in action on Saturday in the second game of a series against the Giants.
