The NFL has now passed the ruling that teams can incorporate a third helmet option in their uniform closet. While this ruling has been a long time coming it has now opened the door of creativity to teams in the league, especially the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to the report, teams have until May 1st, 2024 to inform the league of their intent for this third helmet option. The change will take effect for the 2025 NFL season. The Eagles have been very active on this front over the last two seasons.

During the 2022 NFL season, Philadelphia introduced the black helmet to match their color rush uniforms. Fans fell in love with the color and style but it was short-lived to make way for their 2023 debut of the Kelly green uniform.

When the team first announced the return of the beloved Kelly Green uniforms, the fan base was ecstatic and merchandise sales matched the excitement of the fans. While many believe that this could lead to the return of the black helmets, I would have to wonder if the Eagles have something different in mind.

They not only revamped their Kelly Green uniforms for last season but they also changed the lettering in their logo that will officially make its debut this season. Could this be a sign that the Eagles are preparing for a full uniform redesign?

There’s always the possibility that the franchise goes back to Kelly Green full time and uses the third helmet to help the process of the change. They could introduce away Kelly green jerseys of years past with the all-white helmet and the Kelly Green wing. Or they could even introduce the helmet that CB Isaiah Rodgers has been sporting throughout his training which is all white with the current Eagles’ wing on the helmet.

There are plenty of directions that the Eagles can go with this change but we won’t know until things start leaking through the pipeline. Until then it may be safe to assume that the all-black helmets are on their way back for the 2025 season but the possibility of a new uniform is definitely on the table.

How do you feel about the possibilities of the Eagles’ third helmet?
