It was revealed earlier in the offseason that the Philadelphia Eagles would open the 2024 NFL season playing in São Paulo, Brazil, against an unspecified opponent. Today we learned that the team travelling to Brazil to face Philadelphia will be the Green Bay Packers.
Eagles to face Packers in 2024 season opener
Opening the season in São Paulo is a surreal thing to say, but the Eagles will also be making history by playing in the first ever opening-week Friday night game when they face the Packers at the Corinthians Arena.
The Eagles and Packers last met in 2022, resulting in a 40-33 win for Philadelphia. The Packers lead the all-time series 28-18, but the Eagles have won 2 of the last 3 matchups between the two teams, and it’s important to remember that things are very different for both franchises compared to how things were even 5-6 years ago. The Birds have won 8 of the last 14 contests against Green Bay and will likely be favorites for the opening game of the 2024 season.
The rampant Eagles fanbase took over London a few years ago when their team beat the Jaguars and helped set a then-NFL record attendance for Wembley games. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a sea of midnight green swarm the stands of Corinthians Arena when the two teams lock horns.
