After an exciting start to the season, it’s finally time for the first Major of the year – The Masters. Augusta National Golf Course plays host to the most prestigious tournament in Golf and will see the best players in the world battle it out in hopes of claiming a Green Jacket.
The Masters 2024: Field overview
Scottie Scheffler | +400 |
Rory McIlroy | +1000 |
Jon Rahm | +1100 |
Xander Schauffele | +1600 |
Brooks Koepka | +1800 |
Jordan Spieth | +2000 |
Joaquin Niemann | +2200 |
Xander Schauffele | +2200 |
Hideki Matsuyama | +2500 |
Will Zalatoris | +3000 |
Scottie Scheffler comes into The Masters as a favorite for the second year in a row. Jon Rahm, who won the event by 4 strokes last year, comes in behind Rory McIlroy at +1100 following his transition to LIV Golf.
Scottie was actually priced at +700 in 2023 having won his first Green Jacket the year before, but is priced nearly half of what he was back then and for good reason. He’s finished inside the top 10 7 times in 8 events played this season, including 2 wins and 3 more top 5 finishes. Scheffler is the world #1 by quire some margin, but anything can happen at Augusta, and it quite often does.
As always, Rory McIlroy will be a betting favorite for many. A win at Augusta would finally see Rory complete the Grand Slam that has eluded him his entire career. He’s rarely been in real contention to win The Masters, but he’s coming off of a strong showing at the Valero Texas Open, finishing 3rd place and shooting -11. It’s been a strong start to the year for McIlroy, but he’s yet to hit that really hot streak. Is this the year he finally finishes his story?
Jon Rahm
It’s also hard to ignore Jon Rahm. In terms of odds, he’s tucked in behind McIlroy and Scheffler. But after a transition to LIV Golf, many are keen to see if he can still hang with the stars of the PGA Tour. If Brooks Koepka’s near-win last year is anything to go by then it shouldn’t be an issue, but there’s always that question mark.
Rahm of course won The Masters last year and had four top-5 finishes in a row prior to 2022’s 21’st place finish. A strong course history and proof he can rally on the final day last year makes him a very viable candidate.
Tiger Woods
Of course, The Masters wouldn’t be the same without Tiger Woods. The GOAT has won the event five times in his storied career and although he’s struggled deep into tournaments over recent years, a we all remember his heroic win here back in 2019. Is there one last miracle finish for someone who will always be associated with magic at The Masters?
Will Zalatoris
As far as deep value plays go, Will Zalatoris is an intriguing option at +3000. Prior to a back injury in last year’s Masters, he strung three consecutive top-5 finishes ant Augusta.
After recovering from the injury and notching his first PGA Tour win, the Wake Forest graduate was red-hot to start 2024 before a missed cut at The Players championship. Is there something about this course that brings the best out of one of the PGA Tour’s premier ball-strikers? We’re about to find out…
