Wait…what?! Haason Reddick accused of ‘chasing sacks’ during his time in Philadelphia

Well, this is fun. According to Jeff McLane, there some internal concerns about Haason Reddick chasing sacks during his time with the Eagles. Confused? Me too.

Haason Reddick did what now?

Let’s analyze this. The Eagles traded Haason Reddick going into Easter weekend after previously signing Bryce Huff to a three-year deal worth over $50M. Reddick has been one of the NFL’s most lethal sack artists since he first stepped foot in the league, and posted back-to-back years of 10+ sacks during his tenure with the Eagles.

Reddick was never overly strong in coverage, nor when playing the run and setting the edge. As a pass-rusher, he was easily one of the most dominant forces in the entire league and that’s why he was signed.

So, why would you NOT want him to chase sack totals?! Especially when he was one of very few on the team who delivered consistently in that area?

You could argue that eventually the fire would burn out. Would he still chase sack totals once finally given that shiny new contract? Would he be able to when he’s 2-3 years deep into said contract, and well over the age of 30? These are hypotheticals and nobody really has an answer. However, if we’re to go off the fact he’s played through two prove-it situations and was among his team’s best players in both settings.

At the end of the day, this really doesn’t matter. The fact it’s coming out now is confusing, and I would much rather a reality where we got to watch Haason Reddick rip his way through opposing offensive fronts again and again, than one where he held back and struggled to deliver due to being asked to do things he wasn’t overly good at…or at least as good as he is rushing the passer.
