Purdue’s run this tournament has been nothing short of dominant and now finds themself playing the role of Goliath in this enticing matchup. With Zach Edey, who put up 40 on Sunday to help knock off #2 seeded Tennessee, at the epicenter of the offense, the Boilermakers ripped through the Big Ten and carried all of that momentum to the Final Four.
Armed with an arsenal of shooters including the likes of Fletcher Loyer, their offense is exciting to watch and the struggle for opposing teams has been to stop them heating up from range.
Tennessee proved that the Boilermakers are beatable, however. When the three-pointers stop raining, it’s easy for the ground to dry up quick. The better team won on the night, but Purdue cannot afford to be inconsistent from beyond the arc if they are to assert themselves and take control of what is a very winnable matchup.
North Carolina State
As for NC State, it has very much become this year’s Cinderella team. A team stacked with transfers, the Wolfpack have really been ale to limit damage from range, and that’s the key here. Purdue thrives from beyond the arc, and NC State has been able to keep the likes of Marquette and Duke relatively quiet in that area.
The Wolfpack has been able to capture hearts everywhere through the month of March. DJ Burns has been the star of the show, averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists throughout the NCAA Tournament and will be once again looking to steal the spotlight on Saturday.
Riding a nine-game winning streak, the team is playing without fear and the vibes are just immaculate right now. The real issue for them will be containing Zach Edey. The center is bound to cause trouble and draw plenty of fouls as a result. NC State cannot afford to get into foul trouble early, especially given how light the team is when it comes to starting level talent. Depth isn’t a strength of this team and having to coast against a player as impressive as Edey could be a huge nail in the coffin.

This is a large spread. Sure, it’s a mismatch on paper, but NC State has upset the odds at every turn in the month of March. While an outright win might feel a little too expectant, covering such a big spread is certainly within their wheelhouse, especially if they can at least somewhat dampen Purdue’s red-hot three point shooting.
