Marlon LeBlanc and his Union II side got their 2024 MLS Next Pro season started with a win against Toronto FC II. The Philly youngsters fought back from going a goal down to win the game 2-1, with second-half goals coming from vice-captain Frankie Westfield and debutant striker Eddy Davis III.
Union II vs Revs II Preview
This weekend sees Marlon LeBlanc’s side welcome New England Revolution II to Philly and will be looking to build on their 2-1 opening weekend win. Here’s everything you need to know heading into the game.
As mentioned earlier, Union II will be looking to carry on their winning start to the season in this game, but they’ll have to do it without 2 key starters. David Vazquez, who was the best player on the pitch against Toronto, and impressive young CB Neil Pierre have both been called up to the US U19’s camp in Morocco.
Other than those 2 missing, Marlon LeBlanc should have a full roster to pick from and will be looking to get revenge on a team his side has historically struggled against. Union II’s overall record against New England Revolution II stands at 2-0-5. The last time these two sides met, New England found themselves 3-0 up after an hour gone. Union II got two goals back late on but once again, Union II would fall to New England.
Can Union II get a 2nd straight win?
This game will be New England Revolution II’s opening fixture of their 2024 MLS Next Pro campaign as last week was a scheduled bye week for Richie Williams’ and the team. It will be interesting to see what the team from New England has to offer this year. Richie William’s side had a deep playoff run last year, that saw them knock Union II and New York Red Bulls II out of the playoffs before falling short against Columbus.
Last season saw New England Revolution II break a multitude of club records in a very impressive season. Newcomer Alex Monis will be one to watch out for as the forward scored 4 goals in 5 games for his new team in pre-season and will be looking to open his MLS Next Pro account up in his first game.
The game is at Subaru Park once again this week and kicks off at 3 pm. You can watch the game live on Apple TV through an MLS Season Pass.
