The USMNT is about to play in the semifinals of the 2024 Concacaf Nations League. USA has won the previous two iterations of this tournament beating Mexico in 2021 (this tournament was delayed about a year because of the pandemic), and Canada in 2023. Now they look to prove they’re the best yet to claim their third trophy in as many tournaments!
USMNT’s quest for third straight Nations League
The USMNT has been one of, if not the best team in the Concacaf region since the pandemic. The young stars of the USA are now growing into their own as footballers around the world. The national team is seeing more and more of its players competing at the biggest clubs in the biggest leagues of the world week after week. Now they are coming together yet again to win a trophy they’ve never lost.
Gregg Berhalter is preparing his side to take on Jamaica in the semifinal of the Nations League. The USMNT has not lost to the Reggae Boyz since 2019, but Jamaica has tied the USA in their last two meetings. Will this USMNT side be ready to face a tough task and move on to the final?
USMNT’s Roster
Berhalter has called in 23 players for this Nations League. All 23 USMNT players deserve to play for their country on this stage, and we could see a USA best XI that we have not seen play all together yet at this tournament. Here’s a look at the roster!
GOALKEEPERS (3): 22-Drake Callender (Inter Miami), 18-Ethan Horvath (Cardiff City), Matt Turner (Nottingham Forest)
DEFENDERS (8): 2-Sergiño Dest (PSV Eindhoven), 23-Kristoffer Lund (Palermo), 16-Mark McKenzie (Genk), 13-Tim Ream (Fulham), 3-Chris Richards (Crystal Palace), 5-Antonee Robinson (Fulham), 12-Miles Robinson (FC Cincinnati), 19-Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengladbach)
MIDFIELDERS (6): 4-Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), *11-Brenden Aaronson (Union Berlin), 15-Johnny Cardoso (Real Betis), 8-Weston McKennie (Juventus), 6-Yunus Musah (AC Milan), 7-Gio Reyna (Nottingham Forest)
FORWARDS (6): 20-Folarin Balogun (Monaco), 17-Malik Tillman (PSV Eindhoven), 9-Ricardo Pepi (PSV Eindhoven), 10-Christian Pulisic (AC Milan), *19-Haji Wright (Coventry City), 21-Tim Weah (Juventus)
* 14-Luca de la Torre (right quadriceps soreness) and 11-Josh Sargent (right ankle irritation) were replaced by 11-Brenden Aaronson and 19-Haji Wright.
The USMNT has great ballers on their team with loads of individual talent. Pulisic, Balogun, Reyna, McKennie, Musah, and Adams are all in to make up the team’s starting front six. Dest, Ream, Robinson, and Jedi are all back to play in defense. Matt Turner has had a rough year for his club but is back as the top-choice keeper for the USMNT. Can this XI be the XI that leads the USA to another Nations League title?
Can the USMNT win their third Nations League?
The USMNT is looking to start that threepeat Nations League campaign with their match against Jamaica on Thursday at 7 pm EST. If they can best the Reggae Boyz, they’ll take on the winner of the other Concacaf Nations League Semifinal between Panama and Mexico. Here’s a look at the matches and where to watch.

- Panama vs Mexico | 10:15 pm EST | March 21 | Paramount+ OR Univision
These are the top four teams in Concacaf right now, and the team that can win this Nation’s League Trophy will have a nice tune-up before this summer’s Copa America. All four nations are in this Summers Copa America, which usually only has Conmebol sides, but has allowed for six Concacaf nations to join in on the fun. Will we see any of these final four from Concacaf go on and win both the Nations League and the Copa America?
