There’s no such thing as a day off for Howie Roseman. According to Dianna Rossini, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing former 49ers LB Oren Burks on a one-year deal.

Who is Oren Burks?

Oren Burks was a third-round pick back in the 2018 NFL Draft and has spent the last two years in San Francisco after previously playing for the team who drafted him, Green Bay. He has 175 career tackles along with 2 sacks and an interception.

He finished last year with a career-high 46 tackles, one sack and an interception in 15 games and 5 starts. His spike in production was due to an injury to Dre Greenlaw and while he wasn’t the most impactful player on the field, he was certainly servicable.

How will he impact the Eagles?

Burks is known for his special teams prowess, which could likely be a sign that the Eagles don’t plan on signing free-agent Shaun Bradley. The 28-year-old has played in 70%+ of special teams snaps in all but two seasons he’s spent in the NFL.

The Eagles add a player who has garnered a reputation as one of the best special teamers in the league. He earned a PFF grade of 71.4 on special teams in 2021 and although his coverage has been concerning at times, he played over 300 snaps in the box last season and has the ability to be a spot starter at the SAM linebacker spot should the Birds need him.

It’s not the huge linebacker signing fans have been pining for, but it’s one that will add some immense value to the third phase of the team and could pay some large dividends as a result.
