Latest on the 76ers

During their last two games, the Sixers have seen forward Tobias Harris score over 28 points on both occasions having shot the ball incredibly well. He’s 24-38 from the field in that span, including 8-14 on his three-point attempts. It’s the Harris that the Sixers have needed desperately since Joel Embiid went down with an injury and finally seems to have arrived, just in time to help the 76ers save their season.

All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey has continued to be the focal point of the offense and is leading the team to some victories. In his last ten games, Maxey has only scored fewer than 24 points just once and that was a ten-point effort in the All-Star game. He has averaged 28.5 points in the Sixers last two victories and after a slow start from beyond the arc, has shot 39.3% last month and 40% in the last two. The late season Maxey push is real and he has been coming on strong the past few weeks.

Latest on the Nets

The Nets are 4-6 over their last ten games with wins over the Hawks, Grizzlies, and Spurs while losing to the Celtics twice, Raptors, Timberwolves, Magic, and Grizzlies. They’re not a very good team and it’s shown this year as they’re currently in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

Mikal Bridges and Cam Thomas have led the team throughout the season and after those two, the Nets don’t have many options on either side of the ball. When you’re starting lineup has Cameron Johnson, Dennis Schroder, and Nik Claxton in it, you can’t expect to have much success in the league. They’re a depleted team that seems to be waiting until 2027 and the three first round picks they have in that draft to be able to start getting better.

Former Sixer Ben Simmons is questionable for the game with a back injury and hasn’t appeared in the last four games for the team. Simmons has played in just 15 games for the Nets this year and isn’t lighting up the score sheet. The Aussie has been accused of not having the courage to do the things that are needed to improve as a basketball player while also lacking the confidence to take a shot beyond the three-point line, so it rings with irony that he’s out with a back injury because people have been saying he’s lacked a spine for years.

What to watch for in 76ers vs Nets

Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris will look to continue their fantastic play of the past few games against the Nets, who give up close to 116 points per game. They should have no problem getting the looks that they like and piling up points. What’s going to be important is for players like Kelly Oubre Jr. and Buddy Hield to play well and the combination of Mo Bamba and Paul Reed to continue their combined success.

The duo of Bamba and Reed combined for 21 points and 12 rebounds against the Mavericks after getting 13 points and 16 rebounds against the Hornets. While no one is going to mistake those two for Joel Embiid, the Sixers need this combination of production from the center position if they’re going to make it to the playoffs and the added time on the court will only help if Embiid can return for the playoffs.

Something interesting to watch for is the growth of Kyle Lowry and Tyrese Maxey on the floor together. Against the Mavericks, Lowry was horrendous from the field, shooting just 1-9 including 105. on his three-point attempts. While he only scored eight points, Lowry added four rebounds and seven assists.

In the game against he Hornets, Lowry had 15 points and 10 assists. At 37 years old, there wasn’t much that could be expected of him and it seemed like a good will gesture for the local fans, yet here we are watching Lowry give the team valuable minutes and his movement is allowing Maxey to operate off the ball, where he thrives.
