A.J Brown calls into WIP and puts Philly media on blast: ‘I just wanna let Philly know I love ’em’

It’s been a chaotic 24 hours for Philadelphia Eagles fans. The A.J Brown saga hit new heights on Thursday evening when the wide receiver quoted a WIP clip slamming his mentality, stating he was going to call into the show and set the record straight. On Friday, he did exactly that, setting a new bar for how Athletes should carry themselves in this City.

The A.J Brown story so far

For those not caught up, here’s a quick recap of everything that preceded today’s pipebomb-level promo from the star Philadelphia wideout:

On the surface, everything about A.J Brown’s first two years in Philly seemed great. He’s racked up 2,862 yards and 18 touchdowns in that span and become arguably the most dominant wideout in franchise history, slashing his way through numerous team records and even making NFL history during the 2023 regular season.

But nothing ever stops at surface level in Philadelphia. A.J has long-been known as someone who wears his heart on his sleeve and was seen exuding visible frustration on numerous occasions throughout a difficult 2024 collapse. Brown would often be seen getting in the face of opponents and looking enraged on the sidelines. For some reason, this didn’t go down too well, and some media members started to paint him in a negative light.

This led to Brown deactivating his Twitter during the regular season, and the rest of the saga can be summed up pretty accurately here:

A.J Brown bites back

That leads us to Friday, February 23rd. A.J Brown called into WIP to clap back at the voices that have continued to vilify him over the last few months.

A.J Brown defends his decision to delete social media

For Brown to not only open up on his thought process, but to do so in a way that directly shouts down some of the absurd ‘reports’ surfacing over the last few weeks was genuinely heroic. The former Titan was able to use this exact instance as something that validated his decision to delete social media. That action, in its own right, unnecessarily caused all sorts of drama, but as Brown notes, none of it was self-inflicted and he was absolutely right to not feed the machine that’s already putting extra pressure on him and his teammates.

On his sideline emotions:

Brown is absolutely right in what he’s saying here. To view everyone through the same microscope as Jalen Hurts is disingenuous because everybody leads and processes things differently. Brown being emotive isn’t new, and he doesn’t want that to change just because it’s been misinterpreted by people who aren’t on the sidelines and can see the impact it has.

On staying in Philly

Give him a Bryce Harper contract. For A.J Brown to so eloquently explain himself, something he really didn’t need to do, is beyond admirable. It speaks volumes about the man he is off the field and the type of leader he is on it. The Eagles are lucky to have A.J Brown, and today really highlights why.
