Philadelphia Eagles fans were preparing to enjoy Super Bowl Sunday when they were blindsided by some pretty substantial news. Haason Reddick was reportedly granted permission to seek a trade ahead of his contract-year, sparking plenty of discourse. Just a few days later, the superstar pass-rusher clarified that it wasn’t something he requested.
Haason Reddick wants to stay on the Eagles
Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday that he spoke with Reddick, who stated that he does indeed want o stay with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Temple product then quoted that tweet with some personal context, saying that he never asked for a trade but is prepared for whatever happens.
It’s encouraging that Reddick wants to stay with the Eagles. If the whole ordeal stems from Reddick wanting to secure a deserved payday, then this should at least potentially open the doors to a hometown discount.
Can the agles afford to keep Haason Reddick?
We know that Howie Roseman is a certified Cap God and could well be able to make something work so long as Reddick is willing to stomach a couple of years of prorated bonuses and other contract-based shenanigans that would limit his guaranteed money and cap hit.
Reddick is on the nose to earn a base salary of $14.5M this season and carries a cap hit of $21M. While the Eagles aren’t struggling for cap space right now, they also have to be aware that Jalen Hurts’ $255M contract is going to start weighing on them soon, with his cap hit rising to $21M in 2025, and $31M in 2026.
With that said, he’s currently the 25th-highest paid EDGE in the NFL and is producing like a top-10 pass-rusher year in and year out. It’s absolutely understandable that Reddick would want to be paid what he’s worth, but it sounds as if he’d at least want to see if he could get that in Philadelphia first.
If the Eagles can work out a Haason Reddick extension, it might go down as one of their most important moves of the entire offseason.
