Just as you think the Philadelphia Eagles might be preparing to turn a corner, disaster strikes. According to Adam Schefter, WR A.J Brown will miss Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a knee sprain sustained in the week 18 loss to New York.
How A.J brown’s injury impacts the Eagles
This is obviously really disappointing news for Eagles fans, who have watched A.J Brown dominate the league this season, ranking fifth in receiving as well as earning All-Pro/ Pro Bowl honors. Brown’s stunning season helped propel himself into the record book, as well as the Eagles into the postseason.
The offense looked dismal without DeVonta Smith and A.J Brown last week, and unless the Eagles are somehow tactically playing possum, it’s now going to be shorthanded against the Buccaneers. The one silver lining is that the injury, while enough to keep him out this week, is only minor, and Brown should be able to play next weekend if the Eagles get past the Bucs.
Some would say this buys Nick Sirianni some extra time should the Eagles lose to Tampa Bay. Others would say that it would do the opposite due to the fact that Brown should’ve never really been asked to play on the MetLife turf in a week 18 game where divisional hopes were minimal. The Eagles had little to gain from beating the lowly Giants aside from confidence, but even then, should have been able to do so without a cluster of key players.
The injury to Brown will likely afford Olamide Zaccheaus some extra reps. The former Falcon has 164 yards and 2 touchdowns on the year.
The Eagles were already limping into this game on the back of a terrible stretch that saw them win just one of their final 6 games. They now have to line up without their biggest playmaker on offense. Tough times ahead in Tampa.
