The MLB Hot Stove is as cold as can be as the calendar turns to 2024. The Philadelphia Phillies, in particular, have been dormant when it comes to roster moves this offseason after re-signing Aaron Nola.
Figuring out what to do with the No. 2 rotation spot was a massive priority that, in fairness, the Phillies not only solved quickly but with a long-term deal that is very fair in value. But it wasn’t even Thanksgiving when Nola and the Phils struck an agreement. It’s time for something, anything.
Please, Dave Dombrowski and Sam Fuld. Can we just get a little rumor?
The Phillies don’t have any glaring needs but there’s gotta be room to maybe, possibly sign a reliever, yeah? Maybe they could be named as a possibility for a bench bat or another starter to fortify the rotation? They were reportedly ready to throw the bag at Yoshinobu Yamamoto, so they’re clearly aching to do something!
This is far from just a Phillies problem. MLB free agency has died down immensely since Juan Soto was traded, Shohei Ohtani made the switch from Los Angeles to Los Angeles and Yamamoto followed him there. A complete lack of baseball slop is brutal to deal with. It’s time to take action.
