As if the Eagles needed more bad news following their loss on Monday night. Their star left guard, Landon Dickerson, will be undergoing thumb surgery today and is expected to miss a minimal amount of time. According to NFL insider, Mike Garafolo, the Eagles will not be placing Dickerson on IR which is very similar to how they approached Darius Slay’s injury.
Eagles likely to be without Landon Dickerson for a few games
The Eagles are already without RG Cam Jurgens which led to Sua Opeta starting for them against the Seahawks. If Jurgens is unable to go again on Christmas Day then I would wonder if rookie Tyler Steen will be slotted in at right guard while Sua Opeta moves to left guard.
The team has been bitten by the injury bug quite often this season. This is common in the NFL with any team that played late into February in the year prior. While the Eagles have clinched a playoff spot, they are still fighting for the division title.
The loss to the Seahawks set them back into a tie for the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys. The Birds do have the advantage with an easier schedule ahead of them but nothing should be assumed when it comes to this year’s team. They’ve lost their last three straight games in an unbelievable fashion that has led to significant shake-ups within the organization.
If the Giants pull off an upset on the Eagles on Christmas Day then I would expect seats to get hotter with a historical collapse underway. Until then, they’ll have to figure out a new strategy without one of their key players in Landon Dickerson.
