The Philadelphia Eagles have released their final injury report ahead of this week’s clash against the San Francisco 49ers. After a Wednesday filled with injury updates, today was always going to be interesting. The good news is that things aren’t as bad as they were first assumed to be.
Milton Williams set to return
Milton Williams will officially be active after returning to practice on Thursday. The defensive tackle suffered a head injury in the win over Kansas City and missed Sunday’s victory over the Bills as a result.
Fletcher Cox is questionable for this matchup and having Williams ready to step up should at least take some pressure off of Desai and Cox. Fletch has played in 61% of snaps this year while Milton has played in 40%. An increased role for Williams on his return seems likely, with Moro Ojomo a contender to be called up if needed.
Tight end woes
Dallas Goedert is ‘doubtful’ for Sunday’s game, while Grant Calcaterra is questionable. It was reported that Goedert will “push to play” this week against the San Francisco 49ers, but there’s no need to rush him back.
Jack Stoll and Albert O will be the two names likely given TE responsibilities this weekend. It’s a big opportunity for Stoll and he has to seize the opportunity to showcase his development.
While it’s too late to make a difference to this weekend’s game, it hould be noted that the Cardinals have released veteran TE Zach Ertz. Could he be set for a homecoming? We wrote about the TE situation and why a reunion makes a world of sense here:
Defense still missing key players
Justin Evans and Zach Cunningham will both be sidelined this weekend, which is going to be problematic for Sean Desai’s defense.
Cunningham’s absence is an important one. He’s amassed 47 tackles in 11 games for the Eagles this season and has been come a pivotal cog in Desai’s defense alongside Nicholas Morrow. With linebacker depth minimal, the Niners are hardly the offense to throw Christian Elliss into the deep end against…
The team did bring in Shaq Leonard on Wednesday to take a look at the former Colts linebacker. However, he’s set to reportedly make his decision between the Eagles and Cowboys over the weekend. While the veteran has dealt with some huge injury concerns over the last 24 months, his experience and ability could be invaluable if the Eagles sustain even minor blows at linebacker.
