The Philadelphia Eagles have released their second injury report ahead of this week’s clash against the San Francisco 49ers. After a Wednesday filled with injury updates, today was always going to be intriguing. Will any key players take a step towards being available this weekend?

Milton Williams set to return

While the injury report does look very similar to yesterday, one big difference is Milton Williams making a return to practice. The defensive tackle suffered a head injury in the win over Kansas City and missed Sunday’s victory over the Bills as a result. Getting him back against the Niners would be absolutely huge.

Williams has been a reliable piece in Philadelphia’s DT rotation, coming up with some big plays and explosive pressures when the team needed them most. With Fletcher Cox still missing practice, a return for Milton Williams could be incredibly valuable.

Tight end woes

Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra both missed practice on Thursday, which is certainly worth noting. It was reported that Goedert will “push to play” this week against the San Francisco 49ers, but missing today’s practice doesn’t give us a ton of optimism to work with.

While it’s likely too late to make a difference to this weekend’s game, it hould be noted that the Cardinals have released veteran TE Zach Ertz. Could he be set for a homecoming? We wrote about the TE situation and why a reunion makes a world of sense here:

Defense still missing key players

Fletcher Cox and Zach Cunningham both missed practice on Thursday, which could be problematic for Sean Desai’s defense.

Cunningham’s absence is an important one. He’s amassed 47 tackles in 11 games for the Eagles this season and has been come a pivotal cog in Desai’s defense alongside Nicholas Morrow. With linebacker depth minimal, the Niners are hardly the offense to throw Christian Elliss into the deep end against…

The team did bring in Shaq Leonard on Wednesday to take a look at the former Colts linebacker. He’s set to reportedly make his decision between the Eagles and Cowboys over the weekend. While the veteran has dealt with some huge injury concerns over the last 24 months, his experience and ability could be invaluable if the Eagles sustain even minor blows at linebacker.

Eagles players limited on Thursday

A lot of the Eagles’ skill-position players were limited on Thursday. A.J Brown and Julio Jones were among those, but both practiced on Friday last week after A.J was limited in practies beforehand. We likely won’t know much more until tomorrow, but if last week is anything to go by, the Eagles are just keeping Brown as healthy and as fresh as possible.Wide receiver Julio Jones (knee) also was a full participant on Thursday and Friday.
