We’ve officially reached the end of an era. The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Wednesday that legendary wideout, DeSean Jackson, will officially retire as a member of the team on Friday, December 1st. He will also be recognized as an honorary captain for this weekend’s clash against the Niners.
A truly remarkable career
DeSean Jackson will go down as one of the all-time Eagles greats. He was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft and would go on to spend eight out of a possible 15 seasons with the team, earning three Pro Bowl honors in the process.
Jackson ends his career ranking third all-time in Eagles receiving yards, sixth in receptions, and 9th in receiving touchdowns.
“DeSean Jackson was a dynamic playmaker who captivated Eagles fans with his game-breaking speed, unique skill set, and explosive play,” said Jeffrey Lurie, Philadelphia Eagles Chairman and CEO via the official press release. “What made DeSean truly stand out during his accomplished 15-year career was his ability to make miraculous plays look routine…

…We are thrilled to welcome DeSean back and look forward to celebrating his official retirement as an Eagle on Sunday when he serves as our Honorary Captain of the Game.”
DeSean Jackson will go down as an Eagles hero
DeSean Jackson broke plenty of records during his NFL career, including becoming the first-ever NFL player to be given Pro Bowl honors at two positions (KR/WR). He also tied an NFL record with 8 touchdowns of 50+ yards in a single season.
D-Jax had two stints with the Eagles, but his second was never going to be as remarkable as his first, and with injuries catching up, it was a shame to see it end the way it did. However, getting to honor DeSean Jackson in this way and see him retire as an Eagle is the most fitting ending for one of the most gifted receivers of a generation, and a true trailblazer who really showed the league how great the Need for Speed can be.
