The Delaware Blue Coats are promoting former Magic All-Star Jameer Nelson to the team’s general manager position. Nelson joined the 76ers three years ago and had most recently been the assistant GM for the reigning G League Champion Blue Coats. Nelson takes the reigns as general manager after Prosper Karangwa moved into a more prominent role with the Philadelphia 76ers’ front office.
The 76ers organization has not had much success with All-Star guards in recent history, but that appears to be changing, at least with the 76ers G League affiliate.
Jammer Nelson gets a deserved promotion with Blue Coats
Nelson played in the NBA for 14 seasons, scoring nearly 25,000 points in his career and dishing out over 4,000 assists. Nelson is known most prominently for his success with the Orlando Magic as Dwight Howard’s running mate and was an All-Star during the 2008-2009 season where he averaged 16.7 points and 5.4 assists per game. He also spent time in Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, Detroit, and Boston.
The Blue Coats were led last season by Jaden Springer and Slam Dunk Champion Mac McClung. Springer, who is now competing for minutes in the 76ers rotation, was eventually named G League Finals MVP after a truly phenomenal finals series, averaging 34 points. Now, with a new team, and a new coach in Mike Longabardi, the Blue Coats will try to repeat history and win the G League Championship back-to-back.
