The Philadelphia Eagles have released their first injury report ahead of this week’s primetime clash against the Miami Dolphins and unfortunately, things have gone from bad to worse in terms of injuries.
Eagles suffer more setbacks
The Eagles’ secondary has been limping through the opening stanza and things don’t look to be improving. Bradley Roby, who was signed to replace the injured Avonte Maddox, missed practice fully on Wednesday with a shoulder injury.
There was some further clarity on Roby’s injury earlier, with Jordan Schultz stating that the reported pec injury, while a setback, isn’t big enough of an issue for him to be placed on IR.
Complicating matters is that Reed Blankenship also missed practice today. The Eagles’ safety has been one of the teams’ biggest playmakers this season on a starter-starved defense and although Sydney Brown returned to practice in a full capacity, the position remains light on talent. If Blankenship is out for Sunday, it’s bad news considering how dangerous the high-octane Dolphins offense has been this year.
A surprising addition to the injury report was DeVonta Smith. The third-year wideout is dealing with a hamstring issue. It’s unclear when he suffered this, but it could explain some of his uncharacteristic errors if it occurred during the loss to the Jets.
At the very least, the Eagles have a viable replacement in recently-signed Julio Jones. The veteran wideout feels like the perfect addition to this team and could be called upon to make his presence felt as soon as this Sunday if Smitty is indeed out.
Lane Johnson’s injury hasn’t landed him on IR just yet, but it’s likely he’ll miss this week and we see another start from Jack Driscoll. The Auburn product did struggle against the Jets and the Eagles will be hoping for a much better outing against the Fins.
Jalen Carter and Milton Williams both practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday, which is at least a positive sign that the duo will be back in action this weekend. The Eagles missed Carter massively in the loss to the Jets, with the Georgia product having a dominant campaign during his rookie year.
