It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but the Philadelphia Eagles won’t be seeing Jalen Hurts or their main starters until Week One against the New England Patriots.
Eagles to rest starters in preseason finale
Hurts and a majority of the team’s starters are expected to sit in their preseason finale contest against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday night as first reported by Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The team is expected to start Marcus Mariota for a series before turning to sixth-round rookie Tanner McKee and Ian Book for the remainder of the contest.
This will be the first time in his three-year NFL career that Hurts does not get to play in a single preseason game. Philadelphia has notoriously touted joint practices with opposing teams as a bigger test for their starters as opposed to the three allotted preseason games per year.
Of course, it’s hard to argue against the Eagles’ strategy after several teams have already been hit with the injury bug while playing starters throughout the preseason. Philadelphia already has multiple injuries to the starting lineup with Haason Reddick, and Quez Watkins limited out out with injuries.
Philadelphia and Indianapolis face off at Lincoln Financial Field for their preseason finale on Thursday night at 8:00 pm – ET. The game can be viewed on Amazon Prime.
