After designating Josh Harrison for assignment earlier in the day, the Phillies brought in a new utility man into the fold.

The Phillies send Bailey Falter to Pittsburgh

Rodolfo Castro is reportedly headed to Philly in exchange for Bailey Falter. Castro was in his 3rd year with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He’s just 24 years old. He was slashing .228/.317/.355 in 78 games. He can play shortstop, 2nd, and 3rd.

Bailey Falter started the season in the rotation for the Phillies. He had a lousy showing in 8 games (7 starts). He sported a 5.13 ERA and allowed 7 home runs. Falter did help the Phillies down the stretch in 2022 after Zack Wheeler was injured. In his last 10 starts, Falter had a 3.00 ERA. He’s had a 3.96 ERA in the minors this season.

Josh Harrison was slashing .204/.263/.291 for the Phillies before being DFA’d. Castro is 12 years younger and is under control until 2029. Castro had a nice start to the season, posting a .797 OPS through June 7th. He hit .104 in his last 22 games and was demoted to the minors on July 9th.

There’s a chance he could just be providing depth for the Phillies at Triple-A.
