After the long-awaited return of the infamous Eagles’ Kelly green jerseys, the team has now announced that they will officially go on sale on Monday at 9 am. They have also specified that all three local Pro Shops will be open and have the jerseys available for fans.
With Monday being the official announcement day of the return of the beloved vibrant green jerseys, the team is wasting no time to ensure that their fans get their hands on it.
While a good chunk of the Eagles fanbase is excited about the return of the jerseys that we’re donned by the likes of Randall Cunningham and Reggie White, the other part of the fanbase is not a fan of the return of a jersey color that bright them zero Super Bowls.
It shouldn’t be overlooked that while Cunningham and others were unable to bring the Lombardi home to Philadelphia, the Eagles still won three NFL championships while wearing the color Kelly green back in 1949, 1949, and 1960. But these specific jerseys have a certain hold on this generation of Eagles fans.
It’s not about the fact that Cunningham was never able to win a Super Bowl and allowed his ego to drive him out of Philadelphia. It’s about the fact that the ultimate weapon once wore a color so vibrant, so specific to a community, that it embodies the rich history of the Philadelphia Eagles.
A new history unfolds for the Eagles
Now with Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and this current group of phenomenal Philadelphia athletes, it looks like this throwback jersey will only amplify the perception of this group. A group that will step on the field with swagger and defeats you with a smile on their face. A team that will show the world why these Kelly Green jerseys are only a Philly Thing.
While the announcement of the jerseys has yet to come. It will be interesting to see when the Eagles choose to wear these infamous uniforms. With five prime time games on hand for the 2023 season, it would be great to see if they wear it against one of the teams. They’ll have their selection between the Vikings, Bucs, Dolphins, Chiefs, and the Cowboys.
I would highly doubt that they’ll wear it against the cowboys but the Bucs, Dolphins and even the Vikings are very interesting choices. Would a throwback jersey night against the Dolphins work? It would be the first time that Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts face off in the NFL which would be great for ratings and what better way to market the game then to have it centered around the throwback jerseys.
It could also work against the Bucs or Vikings but those matchups could lack a bit of spice in comparison to the Dolphins game. One way or another, all that matters is that the jerseys are back and they will be available for purchase on Monday morning. Be sure to gift one to your favorite PSN writer/editor while you’re at it.
