The MLB Trade Deadline is approaching and by far the hottest name floating around the rumor mill is Shoehi Ohtani. The young phenom is in his contract year and if he doesn’t plan to re-sign with the Los Angeles Angels, this could be the last opportunity for the club to cash in on a truly generational talent. But who are the favorites to land Shoehi Ohtani?
If you bet $25 on the Phils to land Ohtani, you’d get $675 back. If you use an offer below, that $25 bet could become a $50 bet thanks to these BONUSES, which means your returns would be worth nearly $1,300!
Shoehi Ohtani Odds: Phillies longshots to land Ohtani
Los Angeles Angels | -265 |
Los Angeles Dodgers | +900 |
San Francisco Giants | +1000 |
Baltimore Orioles | +1000 |
New York Yankees | +1200 |
Tampa Bay Rays | +1600 |
Atlanta Braves | +2200 |
Philadelphia Phillies | +2600 |
The Los Angeles Angels have been adamant that they aren’t shifting Ohtani, which is why there is such a huge gap between his current team and the second favorites to land him. However, the Angels are currently 3.5 games off the Wild Card spot and 6.5 off the top of their division.
This is the sort of decision that demands time, but it’s not a luxury that Perry Minasian has. If Los Angeles are going to miss the playoffs, the foresight has to be sudden enough to yield a substantial return for Ohtani. But they risk getting absolutely nothing if he walks in free agency next season, which is absolutely possible if they struggle to make the postseason.
The Dodgers are perhaps the most logical fit. They crave a band-aid for their pitching rotation after losing two of the best in the game, and Ohtani’s offense would undoubtedly be the difference in fending off the Giants and Diamondbacks, who are making retaining the NL West crown increasingly difficult. The Dodgers have enough in their war chest to not only attain Ohtani, but to pay him a groundbreaking deal this offseason.
The Braves getting Shoehi Ohtani would be nightmare fuel for Phillies fans. The best team in the National Legaue getting their mits on Ohtani’s skillset is a terrifying prospect. I think it’s an unlikely one, however, as they would need to say goodbye to some vital cogs and prospects in what has become the most feared machine in the NL. The Braves don’t need Ohtani and dismantling that team could do more harm than good.
If you’re a Phillies fan reading this, it’s hard not to dream. The Phils have been missing a solidified fifth-starter all year and their offense has been sporadic at best. Could you imagine Aaron Nola, Ranger Suarez, and Shoehi Ohtani pitching for the same team?! How about his bat joining Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Alec Bohm?! They’d have to give up a lot in order to bring him in, but Dave Dombrowski is never afraid to make a deadline deal and this would be one that could see the Phillies return to the World Series in 2023 as well as making them viable contenders for years to come.
The good news is that id you are looking to bet on Shoehi Ohtani’s next team, you can take advantage of a sign-up offer, like the one for BetRivers below, and bag yourself a risk-free bet on the Phillies to land him. Worst case, you lose nothing. Best case, your returns are more than double what you would’ve gotten if you’d wagered without the offer.
