Just hours after the Flyers signed Noah Cates to a new contract to avoid arbitration, Danny Briere continues to keep his magic working. Per the Flyers’ Twitter account, the team and Cam York agreed to a two-year, $3.2 million contract.
The Flyers keep their young d-man
Cam York has impressed in his short time since joining the team. Prior to joining the Flyers, he represented the United States in several international competitions, including the 2018 and 2019 U-18 World Championships. Along with this, he played in both the 2020 and 2021 World Junior Championships, serving as captain of the ’21 team.
After being drafted at fourteen overall in the 2019 NHL Draft, York quickly began making an impact with the team. After playing with the University of Michigan, he signed his ELC, and quickly played in three games to end the 2020-2021 season. The 22-year-old then followed this up with a 30 game season in 2021-2022, where he picked up three goals and seven assists despite going -14.
Last season was his first season where he played consistently with the team, playing in 54 games. In those contests, he put up much more encouraging stats. The youngster earned 20 points and had a -1 rating, one of the best among consistent Flyers during the season.
This move continues to show Danny Briere’s trend of building the young core of this Flyers’ team during this rebuilding phase.
