As the sting of a huge loss in Super Bowl LVII still lingers, it appears that the Eagles will take another loss as the Indianapolis Colts are flying out Eagles Offensive Coordinator, Shane Steichen, in hopes of finalizing a deal to make him their new head coach.
A new beginning for Shane Steichen
The Eagles had one of the top offenses in the league and it was all due to not only the QB play or Jalen Hurts but to the playcalling and game planning of Sirianni and Steichen. This was Shane’s second year with the Eagles as their offensive coordinator.
During the Eagles’ big run last season to make finish out the season, Steichen was handed the play-calling duties and his impact was immediately felt. The team became the number one rushing offense in the league which led to them clinching g a wild card birth.
With Shane Steichen gone, the Eagles are expected to promote QB coach Brian Johnson as their next offensive coordinator. The Eagles have a huge advantage in keeping Brian Johnson with the team while giving him more responsibilities.
Brian Johnson is ready to fill Shane Steichen’s shoes
Johnson’s long-tenured relationship with Jalen Hurts is key to the Eagles’ offense taking another step forward next season. He’s been around the Eagles QB since he was three years old as Johnson was once coached by Jalen’a father, Averion Hurts.
While all of these moves have yet to be finalized, the expectation is that the dominoes will fall shortly after Steichen signs and if Jonathan Gannon gets the job in Arizona.
