All eyes have been on Cristiano Ronaldo for the past few weeks but for all the wrong reasons. Thursday will see his Portugal side look to kick off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in the right way, but Ghana will be no pushovers in what promises to be a very intense gorup.

Portugal vs Ghana betting preview
While Portugal possesses plenty of star-power, they’ve notoriously underdelivered when it comes to World Cup play. However, they did win the UEFA Nations League and beat France in the 2016 European Championships. This side does look pretty dangerous as it so often does, but the real question will be whether Ronaldo’s actions have impacted the team.
All interviews have insisted otherwise, but some notable tension on the practice field with now-former Manchester United teammate, Bruno Fernandes, was visible in the run-up to the event in limited camera shorts on Sky Sports News. If the two can click one more time, Portugal will be a tough side to beat, but Ghana won’t be an easy opponent.
Ghana has plenty of speed at its disposal. Inaki Williams will be representing Ghana in the World Cup and with Thomas Partey providing him service, don’t be surprised to see a strong run. The other wildcard to watch here is Mohammed Kudus, who has 4 goals in 6 Champions League appearances for Ajax. he’s only 22 and if you’re looking for a young breakout star, you might not need to look much further.
Portugal vs Ghana betting pick
It would be easy to back Portugal here, but I really like Ghana’s chances of pulling an upset. They have a lot of attacking prowess and some nice young stars coming through (we haven’t even mentioned Tariq Lamptey). If Portugal are anything less than fully in-sync, Ghana will make them pay.
The pivot here would be a Draw no-bet for Ghana to win, or a both teams to score bet. But I wouldn’t mind taking Ghan at 6/1.
