The Philadelphia Flyers (5-2-0) host the Carolina Hurricanes (4-2-1) tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. The puck drops at 7pm.

Recently, the Flyers outlasted the Florida Panthers, avenging one of their losses this season. Carter Hart turned away 48/51 shots on the way to improving to 5-0-0 on the season. Travis Konecny and Kevin Hayes responded wonderfully after being benched for the third period against the San Jose Sharks.

Last night, the Hurricanes lost 6-2 on home ice to the New York Islanders. Tonight, they’re on the tail end of a back-to-back. It’s the first back-to-back for Carolina in 2022-2023. Philadelphia already split two back-to-back series this season, aware of how a team might lag in the second consecutive game.

Can the Flyers add to their Metropolitan Division lead?

Carolina Hurricanes

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Hurricanes:

Teravainen-Aho-Jarvis
Svechnikov-Kotkaniemi-Necas
Martinook-Staal-Fast
Noesen-Stastny-Stepan

Slavin-Burns
Skjei-Pesce
Coghlan-Chatfield

Raanta
(Andersen)

Jordan Martinook, despite a 6-2 loss to the Islanders, was very successful in even-strength situations. He tallied an assist when Brent Burns took a second attempt from the blue line. Martinook (1G, 2A) keeps possessions going.

Dylan Coghlan resides on the bottom defensive pair and second powerplay unit. He also turned in a solid performance versus the Islanders, despite the scoreboard. Overall, not a bad replacement while Calvin de Haan is out due to an undisclosed injury.

Antti Raanta (1-0-1, 1.93GAA, 92.2%SV) is the likely starter based on back-to-back scheduling. Frederik Andersen occupied the crease last night versus the Islanders.

Philadelphia Flyers

Here’s the tentative lineup for the Flyers, per Bill Meltzer:

Farabee-Hayes-Konecny
Cates, N-Laughton-Tippett
Deslauriers-Sedlak-MacEwen
Bellows-Frost-Allison

Provorov-DeAngelo
Sanheim-Ristolainen
Seeler-Braun

Hart
(Sandstrom)

Owen Tippett jumped back into the lineup versus the Panthers. He was effective away from the net, which Tortorella wants to see from Tippett. Transitioning from the neutral to the offensive zone, Tippett created a breakaway opportunity for Hayes. Eventually, Joel Farabee scored on the doorstep, turning a broken chance into a cleaned-up scoring play. Tippett (0G, 1A) must continue this progression now that he’s healthy.

Travis Sanheim secured his bag via an 8yr/$50mil extension. He was stellar in the second period versus Florida, especially on the penalty kill versus forwards like Aleksander Barkov. Rasmus Risolainen, like Tippett, rejoined the lineup versus the Panthers. Spotlight those two defensemen because they’ll be as critical down the lineup as Tony DeAngelo and Ivan Provorov over the long haul.

“Everybody talks about having the puck. Having the puck starts with your defensive play. We’ve rolled off of people; we’re in good position at first, then we give them the good ice.”

John Tortorella; 10/29/2022

Carter Hart (5-0-0, 2GAA, 94.7%SV) will start tonight, making his sixth of the year.
