There’s no better Summer night than the one that’s filled with midnight green and bright lights at the Linc. On Sunday night, the Eagles hosted their annual open practice for all Eagles fans and beat writers to attend. The night was filled with drills and even some 11 Vs 11 sets.
This was the first opportunity that fans had to witness the progression of this young roster. After an early playoff exit last season, the Eagles loaded up on talent in hopes of building off of the success that they had last season. Tonight was a moment where the fans were able to get together to witness the growth.
As expected, all eyes were on Jalen Hurts. In a very limited environment, Hurts showed growth in his mechanics. The moment of the night for him was a deep pass to AJ Brown who was smothered by James Bradberry. As Brown fought for position, Hurts laid the ball right into the bread basket of the Eagles’ newest weapon for a 30-yard TD pass.
The defense looked as good as they could in a practice setting as they made everything difficult for Hurts and the offense. Jalen had several moments where he had to kill the play due to coverage.
As fans were able to witness the players playing in a controlled environment, it was the players that they were not able to see that could be a bit concerning. Among those that were out due to injury was second-year star wideout, DeVonta Smith as well as the franchise left tackle, Jordan Mailata.
It would be wise to monitor these injuries as the Eagles’ first preseason game is upon us on Friday, August 12th, as they take on the New York Jets. With preseason continuing the trend of only three games, it would be interesting to see how the team manages the injured starters.
