NHL free agency officially began at 12:00 pm this afternoon. The Philadelphia Flyers have been rumored to be a landing spot for New Jersey native, Johnny Gaudreau, but hope is starting to fade.

On the other hand, the Flyers have made their first signing of free agency. Cooper Marody (C/RW) has been signed to a 2-year deal. Marody, 25, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Flyers. He never played an NHL game with the Flyers, but he has played in seven total NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers. Marody has seen most of his time with the Bakersfield Condors, the Oilers’ AHL affiliate.

His potential role with the Flyers

Marody played in one game with the Oilers last season and recorded one assist. His highest point total with the Bakersfield Condors was in 2018-2019 when he scored 64 points (19G, 45A) in 58 games played.

Marody is a high-end AHL player and it’s to be believed that he’ll see most of his time with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Marody could see action with the Flyers as an injury call-up.
