In case anyone had any doubts as to why the Eagles added track star, Devin Allen back in April, today is as clear a reason as any.
The New York Grand Prix in Randall’s Island took place in New York City today and the Eagles’ latest addition turned heads in all the right places.
Allen ran a 12/84 in the 100 hurdles. Why is it significant? That’s the third-fastest time in world history.
Devin Allen ran in the Tokyo Olympics back in 2021 and placed 4th in the world in the same event.
Add that to his experience in the World Championships the last few years, along with prior experience in the Olympics in Rio back in 2016 and Allen is clearly among the fastest athletes in the entire world.
The World Athletics Continental Tour made NYC the ninth stop of their tour that saw Allen and many other Olympic superstars compete in several different competitions.
For Devin Allen, his speed brings an intriguing option for the Eagles on offense and on special teams. Listed at only 6’0″ flat, the former Oregon football player will have an honest chance to make the team as a quality returner and potential receiver. Being one of the fastest athletes in hurdle runs can be used as a nice compliment to the return game especially. Something the Eagles have been lacking in recent years.
The Eagles are loaded at the receiver position, however. The additions of Zach Pascal and AJ Brown only will help grow the young talent of Quez Watkins and DeVonta Smith.
Devin Allen will need to prove that he belongs on an NFL roster, but there can be no denying that his speed brings something new and unique to the table for Nick Sirianni and the Eagles team.
