The injury Philadelphia 76ers‘ wing Danny Green sustained last night against the Miami Heat has been confirmed to be a torn ACL. When Green went down three minutes into the series-ending loss it was clear that the results of any tests were unlikely to be positive for the three-time champion.

Danny Green’s season with the 76ers had been filled with many ups and downs. He dealt with the challenges of the Ben Simmons drama, he dealt with injuries, he dealt with not only the lack of a defined role but one that was constantly fluctuating. This season was a challenge for Danny Green but he stood tall and proved himself to be a consummate leader throughout it all.

This offseason already provided uncertainty for Green as his contract features a $10 million option that the 76ers can decline by the first of July — which they almost certainly will do after this latest development. Green has had an impressive 13-year career solidifying himself as a perennial playoff role player, the type of player that every team needs. It’s far too soon to count Green out for good but one thing is certain, the road ahead will be long for the 35-year-old veteran.
