The Blue Coats started off the 2022 G League playoffs with a win after defeating the Long Island Nets behind Jaden Springer’s star performance.

On the backs of some notable current and former Sixers — Myles PowellCharles Bassey, Aaron Henry, and, of course, 76ers’ first-rounder Jaden Springer — the Blue Coats won this game by a score of 132-116. Delaware continued to show their dominance as this was their third consecutive game won by 10 or more.

Blue Coats Player of the Game

While Myles Powell was the spark tonight for the Blue Coats, the show came from Sixers’ rookie Jaden Springer. The former 28th overall pick had enough highlight plays for a reel all to himself, from step-back threes to putback slams, to breakaway jams. It was a night to remember for number 11.

Springer piled up an impressive 26 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. It was a great showing of not just the athleticism and defensive ability many have come to expect from Springer but also an opportunity to show off his offensive ability.

The Sixers’ rookie was an efficient 2/2 from deep for the Blue Coats and a red-hot 8/11 from the floor on the night. Sixers fans can look to this game for a few reasons to be excited about Springer’s future in the NBA.

Charles Bassey Check-In

Jaden Springer wasn’t the only Sixers rookie to be featured in this game. Second-round pick Charles Bassey had an impressive night as well, tallying 17 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in the victory for Delaware. Many Philadelphia fans are paying close attention to Bassey’s impressive G League performances as he has been looked at as the most likely candidate to backup 76ers’ star Joel Embiid for the foreseeable future.

Between the season he’s had for the Blue Coats and the Sixers’ horrendous current depth, it’s likely only a matter of time before Charles Bassey finds himself a full-time NBA role.

On to Round Two

The Delaware Blue Coats will move on to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face the Motor City Cruise. One thing was made clear as crystal tonight, this team is clearly ready for whatever comes their way.
