The Phillies have finally decided to join in on the free agency fun by signing relief pitcher Corey Knebel. The team and the veteran relief pitcher have reportedly agreed to a contract.

*Update*

The terms of Knebel’s contract have been announced per Jon Heyman if MLB Network, it is a one year deal worth $10 million.

Who is Corey Knebel?

The 30-year-old right-hander has spent time in Milwaukee and Los Angeles (Dodgers) as both a closer and middle innings reliever. Corey’s best season was in 2017, whereas the closer Milwaukee Brewers made his lone All-Star appearance and led the league in appearances. Since then, Knebel has dealt with injuries that have kept him off the mound.

Corey Knebel relies heavily on just two pitches his fastball and knuckle-curve. There may just be only two pitches in his arsenal but when he’s on his game they are absolutely filthy.

What to Expect in 2022

Corey Knebel has the potential to become Phillies closer in 2022. Someone with real experience closing out games, Knebel can provide stability in the back–end of the Phillies bullpen. If he can remain healthy, he should be the favorite to win the closing job as the team currently stands.

The Phillies should continue to improve the bullpen by bringing in experienced arms. With that being said this is a great addition to the team and will hopefully pan out for the club in 2022.
