It’s been a big week for Bryce Harper. He’s now a two-time National League MVP after edging out the likes of Juan Soto and Fernando Tatis Jr and he received plenty of well-deserved praise and congratulations along the way. The fun hasn’t stopped yet though, as there was one more chapter to this tale to bring it full circle.
Two years ago, Bryce Harper surprised the players of the North Camden Pirates, a youth baseball team, with a shopping spree, new cleats and Phillies tickets. This was an extremely kind-hearted gesture considering that the team had been robbed and their season was in jeopardy. Bryce Harper went out of his way to make a difference and change the lives of some young aspiring baseball players. Two years later, they returned the favor.
The team got together and surprised MV3 with a customized pair of his Harper 6 cleats. The shoes were designed by eight players from the 2019 team in partnership with Under Armour.
“This was a really sweet surprise and such a cool way to reconnect with the young North Camden athletes.” Harper said via a press release. “This game can present both struggles and triumphs, which they are all too familiar with. I’ll think of them every time I wear these cleats—they’re a representation of their hard work. To be the kind of player these kids look up to really means the world to me. I mean it when I say that I play for them. The fact that they thought of me during this moment is truly special.”
On top of that, Under Armour actually gave each North Camden Pirate a pair of UA Harper 6 cleats and UA Harper 6 turf shoes. UA and DICK’s, the venue where the shoes were painted, also donated a combined $10,000 to the organization to cover uniforms, equipment and more.
The Cleats look fantastic and this is easily the most wholesome story I’ve had the pleasure to learn about in a long time. It was such a kind gesture from the young Pirates to congratulate a player who is just as much as a hero off the field as much as he is on it, and one that was clearly welcomed by Bryce himself. What better than a warm story for a cold November afternoon?
