A brief Eagles history of draft-day trades: The good, the bad and the ugly

2016

Eagles receive pick 8 – traded
Dolphins receive pick 13, LB Kiko Alonso, & CB Byron Maxwell – pick 13 became T Laremy Tunsil

Alonso was a really good player for Miami! Maxwell was not. But selecting “weed junkie” Laremy Tunsil ultimately got the Dolphins a haul of draft picks that they’re making use of this year.

Based on this trade alone, and nothing that came after, it’s a push. But you know that’s not the case..

Eagles receive pick 2 & 2017 fourth round pick – 2 became QB Carson Wentz & the fourth round pick was traded
Browns receive picks 8, 77, 100, 2017 first round pick, & 2018 second round pick – All of the picks were involved in trades

The Eagles got a franchise QB who holds a handful of records and helped the team get in position to win the Super Bowl. You tell me who won this trade.

Eagles receive picks 196 & 240 – 196 became DB Blake Countess & 240 became DE Alex Mccalister
Vikings receive pick 188 – became TE Blake Morgan

Push? Over a cliff?

Prior to draft:

Eagles receive pick 100
Titans receive RB DeMarco Murray & pick 116

Prior to 2016 season:

Eagles receive 2017 first round pick & 2017 conditional fourth round pick – first became DE Derek Barnett and fourth became DE Josh Sweat
Vikings receive QB Sam Bradford

The most iconic fumble recovery in team history and quite arguably the best DE on the team outside of BG? For Sammy Sleeves?

During 2016 season:

Eagles receive conditional 2018 pick (became fourth round) – was traded for RB Jay Ajayi in 2017
Patriots receive CB Eric Rowe

Eagles used the pick to trade for one of the best mid-season acquisitions in team history.

2017

Before the draft

Eagles receive DT Timmy Jernigan & pick 99 – became CB Rasul Douglas
Ravens receive pick 74 – became DT Chris Wormley

A huge addition to the DL in Jernigan and a not-always-so-good CB in Rasul Douglas but he did have his fair share of good plays. This is a win for the Eagles.

Eagles receive pick 132 – became RB Donnel Pumphrey
Vikings receive picks 139 & 230 – 139 was traded again and 230 was traded again

LOL.

Eagles receive picks 164 & 214 – 164 was traded & 214 became DT Elijah Qualls
Titans receive pick 155 – became LB Jayon Brown

Brown has 330 tackles in his four seasons with the Titans. Qualls has played six games.

Eagles receive picks 166 & 184 – 166 became WR Shelton Gibson & 184 became #47
Dolphins receive pick 164 – became G Isaac Asiata

I want to say Eagles lose this one. I really want to. But Asiata has played in two games.

Ugh.

2018

Eagles receive picks 52, 125, & 2019 second round pick – 52 was traded, 125 became CB Avonte Maddox, and the 2019 pick became RB Miles Sanders
Ravens receive picks 32 & 132 – 32 became QB Lamar Jackson & 132 became WR Jaleel Scott

I’d lean this as a push with a slight Eagles edge.

The Eagles got one of the best rookie safeties in 2018 in Maddox (yes, he was) who is now being thought of as a bust because of how he was thrust into an outside corner spot last season. 52 was used to trade up for (see below) and Miles Sanders was picked in 2019 using the other pick. A lot to like there.

While Lamar Jackson has become a star for the Ravens, it’s been more of the “running back who can kind of throw” variety. Now that he has Sammy Watkins and maybe another receiver in this draft, maybe he becomes more of a QB. I doubt it.

Eagles receive pick 49 – became TE Dallas Goedert
Colts receive picks 52 & 169 (nice) – 52 became LB Kemoko Turay & 169 became RB Jordan Wilkins

The Eagles were able to get 2021’s TE1 (probably) and the Colts were left with a LB who has 20 tackles in two years and a RB4 who might get traded.

Eagles receive pick 233 – became T Jordan Mailata
Patriots receive pick 250 & 2019 seventh round pick – 250 became TE Ryan Izzo & the seventh round pick was traded

Where would the Eagles offensive line have been without Mailata in 2020?

During 2018 season:

Eagles receive WR Golden Tate
Lions receive 2019 third round pick – was traded

Lol.
