It hasn’t been a secret. The Phillies’ center field duo of Roman Quinn and Adam Haseley has not been working. Quinn has just 1 hit in 17 at bats and Haseley has hit just .190. Their performance has forced the Phillies’ hand into calling up their first number 1 overall pick since Pat Burrell, Mickey Moniak.
Haseley, leaving the team for personal reasons, has been put on the restricted list to make room for Mickey Moniak.
Moniak had a Hell of a spring for the Phillies. He slashed .273/.385/.727 in Florida. Many thought the 22-year-old performed well enough to win the open center field job right out of the gate. He was instead optioned to the alternate site, seemingly destined to start the season in Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Plans change and now the young Moniak will have his second taste of the big leagues. Last season, Moniak saw limited action throughout 8 games. He went 3/14 at the plate with 4 walks in his cup of coffee stint. He’ll now face the daunting task of starting in center field for the Phillies. Time will tell if he’s the player the Phillies selected with the number overall draft pick in 2016.
On the other side, it isn’t known as to why Haseley has left the Phillies or for how long. No one should speculate why as it surely is a personal matter. We’ll find out in due time. Until then, PSN wishes Adam Haseley the best in whatever he is going through.
