Sam Morin and Nolan Patrick were the standouts in day one. On day two of the Philadelphia Flyers training camp, who will be in the spotlight?
On day one of training camp, Samuel Morin and Nolan Patrick both were subjects of positive discussion. Patrick continued to improve, adding to his momentum from yesterday. Morin kept the physicality by finishing checks. A few players stood out today in addition to day one’s spotlight.

Flyers building Chemistry
A couple of lines made up from “Group A” seemed to be budding along today. The second-line featured Oskar Lindblom, Patrick, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel. On the third-line were James van Riemsdyk, Morgan Frost, and Joel Farabee.
It’s training camp, so these lines are shuffled often to see how players perform with one another. There are not any real implications of these two lines taking shape. The second-line, however, was one worth paying attention to. Aube-Kubel is notorious on the forecheck, and Patrick used his body to push players off the puck today. Collecting the puck into the neutral zone would be Lindblom, who turned into a finisher last season.
“Group A’s” middle-six wasn’t finished. The third-line seemed to feed off one another today. Frost looks quick on the ice, which benefits the line with van Riemsdyk and Farabee. In the shootout drill, van Riemsdyk was able to score. Frost was denied in his attempt.
Hear my (Zayde) Wisdom
Day two acted as day one for Flyers rookie Wisdom. The fourth-round pick missed yesterday due to an undisclosed reason. Today, he skated on the ice with “Group A.” After missing the first day of training camp, Wisdom answered with an impressive day two.
Wisdom showed battled alongside Kevin Hayes and Michael Raffl. He showed promise in his first full training camp day with the team. Noticeably, he made smart plays in the neutral zone. The lone goal by his team in the scrimmage, scored by Hayes, was the direct product of a contribution by Wisdom. Good first day of training camp.
Gustafsson finds the net
Today’s scrimmage ended in a 1-1 tie after forty minutes. Hayes notched the first goal of the scrimmage before Erik Gustafsson answered. The puck traveled through some traffic, but that is par for the course from a defenseman. He also scored a shootout goal. It’s what you hope to see from a powerplay specialist defenseman.
Gustafsson partnered with Justin Braun today in “Group B.” In doing so, he showed his flexibility to play on either side of the ice.
