The Sixers continue to make moves this offseason and finally seem to have the team’s future in mind.
Recently, the Sixers have boasted a front office that can only be described as more than dysfunctional. This has been the case since the league murdered Sam Hinkie in what can only be described as a witch hunt.
In the years to follow, it became clear that the trial of Sam Hinkie was a mistake. It was also clear that the Sixers may have even destroyed the entire process by allowing the Colangelo’s to sink their teeth into a franchise that was once on the rise.
The Sixers’ Latest Addition
The Sixers cannot make up for lost time. They have, however, made a move that will allow them to get back on track as a franchise; that move is non-other than hiring Hinkie’s mentor, Daryl Morey per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Morey, recently the General Manager for the Houston Rockets. has been proclaimed as one of the bright minds among basketball front offices. He is, after all, the man behind the James Harden trade. While that never resulted in a championship, there are other reasons for that.
Even still, Morey has shown a desire to win, and an ability to build a team to do so.
In his 12 years as GM with the Rockets, the team has never finished the season with a losing record and has made the playoffs nine times. The reasons behind the Sixers’ desiring Morey are obvious. As we know now, it was not one-sided.
It appears that the Sixers and Morey had mutual interest from the get-go. There are likely man contributing factors to Morey’s decision.
The position with the Sixers is a desirable one and he has history with Head Coach Doc Rivers. Who knows, maybe Morey wanted to finish what Hinkie started. Like though it’s due to the Sixers making an offer he couldn’t refuse.
This move should give Sixer fans everywhere supreme confidence in the future of this team. While the ownership group is still a question-mark, it would be unfair to say anything other than that this offseason, so far, has been a major win for the Sixers.
Major Change In Philly
So far this offseason, the team has hired Doc Rivers as Head Coach. Dave Joerger as Rivers’ lead assistant. And now, Daryl Morey. Things are going well in Philly. Much better than fans expected at the end of the Sixers’ season.
Many (myself in particular) were very vocal against the current front office. The franchise following through on its promise to restructure the front office is more than encouraging.
There has been some very encouraging change in the front office, now it’s time for the Sixers to focus on the roster.
