2021 point guard Nick Marshall is a 6-5, 175 lbs, crafty point guard who plays for River Hill high school in Clarksville, Maryland. He has a great feel for the game and knows how to make others around him better. We talked about his recruitment and his offer from Big 5 powerhouse Penn.
LJ: What teams have kept in contact with you the most?
Nick: The schools that have been keeping contact with me the most are Davidson, UNCW, Penn, Yale, Dartmouth, Loyola (MD), George Mason, and Northeastern.
LJ: I see you support 2021 Villanova commit Angelo Brizzi. What relationship do you have with him?
Nick: Last summer Angelo and I played AAU together where we became very close friends and have been since.
LJ: What were your averages last season? What were the stats of your best game?
Nick: 17.2ppg 4apg 6rpg 2.5spg 42% from 3
Lake Clifton (3rd in state)- 25pts 5reb 4ast 3stl
Marriotts Ridge- 28pts 6reb 4ast 8stl
Howard- 26pts 5reb 5ast 2stl
LJ: Tell me what it’s like competing in talent-rich Maryland. What is it like coming up in Clarksville?
Nick: it’s a lot more competitive growing up in Maryland playing basketball because everyone is good so you have to do a lot more to stand out. Growing up in Clarksville is like growing up anywhere else where you have to go find where the best competition is whether that is close or far.
LJ: What makes you a good point guard? How do you impact the game?
Nick: I am a good point guard because with my size I am able to see the floor easily. Also with my size at 6’5 I am a lot more versatile because I can shoot over other guards but also finish above the rim easily.
LJ: You recently received an offer from Penn. How long have they been recruiting you and what coach is recruiting you from the Quakers?
Nick: Before Penn offered me they had been recruiting me for a few months consistently reaching out to talk to me. The coach who started talking to me from Penn was Coach Graham, but before Penn did a zoom and offered me every coach had reached out to talk to me.
LJ: How do you feel about the offer from the Quakers? Have they become one of your top teams?
Nick: The offer from Penn really excited me because not only is their academics amazing, but their basketball is amazing and unique having the Philly Big 5. Yes, Penn has become one of my top choices.
LJ: Do you plan to do a virtual or on campus visit?
Nick Marshall: I’m hoping because Penn is in driving distance from me to be able to get up there to see the campus for myself.
