After today’s announcement by Governor Murphy, the Philadelphia 76ers released a statement citing the re-opening of the team’s training facility.
The state of PA is not in the ‘red zone’. Governor Wolf hopes to have the entire state out of the red zone by June 5th. Philadelphia is on ‘stay at home’ until June 4th.
Luckily for the Sixers, their facility is located in Camden, New Jersey. Here’s what was released to the press on Tuesday.
“Following today’s announcement by Governor Murphy, the Philadelphia 76ers Training Complex in Camden, New Jersey will begin a phased reopening tomorrow for voluntary, individual workouts. Players and essential staff will adhere to strict safeguards in accordance with NBA guidelines.”
The important thing here is ‘individual workouts’. The workouts are not only voluntary, but will be limited to individual sessions. The Philadelphia Union recently returned in a similar fashion, actually holding their training sessions down at the Sixers’ complex in Delaware.
This is an encouraging sign. Practices being held in a controlled manner will go a ling way in facilitating the return of Basketball. How and when it will return though is another debate altogether.
