This was set to be one of the biggest weeks of the College Basketball season. The Sweet 16 & Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament would be on the horizon, but March Madness was cancelled 14 days ago due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
On Wedesday, Villanova Head Coach Jay Wright held his end of season conference call and talked about a couple of topics.
Then was asked about On Saddiq Bey & Jeremiah Robinson-Earl going through the NBA Draft Process
Jay Wright was asked about the 2020 Olympics being postponed as Wright is one of the assistant coaches for USA Basketball:
“The impact is felt on a lot of levels. I think it’s the right decision. I feel bad for all of the athletes who prepare to do this once every four years, for whom it may be a once in a lifetime kind of deal. For basketball guys, it’s not as difficult. I talked with Pop (USA Head Coach Gregg Popovich) and Sean Ford (USA Basketball Director) Tuesday. It’s postponed, not cancelled, until next spring or summer. There’s a lot of questions there.
If they did hold the Olympics in late spring (2021), you might not have NBA players. If they did it in summer, you might have NBA players. We have to wait for the IOC to make those decisions. We had a plan in place for our (Villanova) workouts to work around my schedule this summer that we had spent a lot of time developing. But now that doesn’t even matter”
The Wildcats ended their 2019-20 season at 24-7 & 13-5 in Big East earing them as CO Big East regular season champions with Seton Hall & Creighton
Villanova would also finish Number 9 in the final AP Top 25 Poll
