In what many fans originally thought was a trade announcement, the Flyers announced a roster move Thursday morning:
The last time Ghost was in the AHL was the 2015-2016 season. In total, he played a mere 21 games but picked up 15 total points. However, it’s not the point production that would be the reason for his demotion.
After a practice about a week ago, Sam Carchidi reported that Ghost “would agree to go on a conditioning stint with the Phantoms and thinks it would be beneficial.” Well, he got his wish.
This season has been far from ideal for Gostibehere. He’s on pace to set yet another career-low for points and has been battling injuries. With Hagg’s stellar offensive and defensive play as of late, Gostisbehere has been relegated to the press box as a result.
This is a great move for both the organization and Ghost. Shayne needs time to regroup and get himself together, and the Flyers can now allow Robert Hagg to comfortably play each night.
Mark Friedman was also recalled yesterday, and will likely fill the role as the seventh defenseman:
With this news, the thought of Ghost being traded is still up in the air. Ghost will likely stay a Flyer unless the price is right, but sending him down does not rule him out being packaged in a deal for a forward entirely.
