Five Shrine Bowl standouts who could interest the Eagles

The East-West Shrine game is in the books and there is plenty to reflect on. The event did exactly what it says on the tin and enabled some real under-the-radar talent to boost their draft stock.

TE Eli Wolf, Georgia

Wolf stole the show in my mind. He didn’t score a touchdown or make a ridiculous catch, but was easily one of the most consistent players on the field all game. Wolf was red-hot in the first half as a receiver, linking up with QB James Morgan to catch deep passes all over the field, before showing impressive prowess as a run-blocker a little later on.

The Eagles have had trouble finding a third tight end since they lost Trey Burton and the return of 13-personnel could be upon us if they opt into developing a prospect. Wolf ticks all the boxes.

DE Alex Highsmith, Charlotte

I was really high on this explosive pass-rusher (see the preview article) coming into the game, but even higher coming out. Highsmith flashed a nice spin-move along with all of the traits that are evident on tape. He was able to burst into the backfield and make some really impactful plays, which should only elevate his draft stock.

The Eagles need DE depth and they need a long-term option behind the starters. Highsmith, with time to develop, could easily be that guy.

DT Garrett Marino, Alabama-Birmingham

Marino is a Diamond in the rough, of that I’m sure. He flashed as I thought he would down in Florida, showcasing a powerful first step and a lot of slippery play that saw him invade the opposing backfield.

It’s easy to see him filling a ‘Michael Bennett’ role where he can play both the 3/5 tech. He’s a little undersized and did get swallowed up by interior guards on several occasions, but if he can become a situational pass-rusher or someone with that speed off the edge, he’s a real weapon.

S Jordan Glasgow, Michigan

The Michigan Safety stole the spotlight in the second half, hitting like a freight train and somehow always being around the ball. It only took one monstrous hit to make me want to dig out the tape.

The Birds could use some help at Safety and Glasgow fits exactly what the team need from a hybrid role.

WR Malcolm Perry, Navy

I was hoping to see a little more from the former Navy QB, but the one flash he had was enough to light up a very dark cave. Perry lined up at his old stomping ground, took the snap on a designed QB run and took off for a 52-yard rushing touchdown. I didn’t realize he was that fast. But he’s lightning-quick and made everyone else look silly.

The Eagles have a real ‘need for speed’ and Perry, built in the same vein as Greg Ward, could be a perfect late flyer to bring some juice to the table.
