The Flyers take the ice at 5:00pm tonight in Winnipeg and two guys from Lehigh Valley caught the red-eye flight and are expected to play. The team was left no other option as their offense slowly depletes from injury and illness. Who said the Phantoms don’t play in Philadelphia anymore? After these two call ups, the Flyers will have six roster players who started the season in Lehigh Valley.
Carsen Twarynski
Making his third return to the NHL this season, Carsen Twarynski is looking to make an impact loud enough to stay. He’s played a collective fourteen NHL games but tallied just one goal in his time with the Flyers. In twelve games with the Phantoms, Twarynski recorded two goals and one assist.
Nicolas Aube-Kubel
A fan favorite who finally got the call. Nic Aube-Kubel (NAK) has been up and down between the NHL and AHL starting early last season. This will be his first call up of 2019-20 season. He’s played nine total NHL games but has not recorded any points. In twenty six AHL games this season, he has five goals and three assists. Aube-Kubel is a good player for the Flyers to call upon in a depleted special teams situation. He’s notorious for his play on the penalty kill and even scored a shorthanded goal just last night.
Tonight in Winnipeg
With these two Phantoms headed to Winnipeg, the Flyers now have six Phantoms in the lineup (Joel Farabee, Morgan Frost, Mikhail Vorobyev, David Kase, Carsen Twarynski, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel). However, Twarynski and Aube-Kubel are coming off a back to back (including travel) and tonight’s game will make it a three in three for these two. Growing pains are to be expected, but given the circumstances, the Flyers were not left with much of a choice.
The Flyers take the ice in Winnipeg tonight at 5:00pm and both players are expected to dress and play. Stay tuned for the game preview on Philly Sports Network.
